This is my best photo because it follows the rule of thirds by not having the focus point in the middle of the photo. Also, it focuses on line and shape and has leading lines. Another reason why it is m best photo is because the photo is has strong positive and negative space. In addition, I like the way you can see the sun rays in the background and you're able to see the motion of the wind by the waving flag.
Photoshop Experimentation
Capturing Light
The time of day that I took this photo was mid-afternoon. The time of day had some affect on the photo but not a lot because the shades were closed and the main source of light comes from the chandelier itself. The chandelier is on the ceiling in the dining room of my grandparents' house. The light comes from inside the chandelier and peaks through the beads and reflects onto the ceiling. The composition of my photograph is that it follows the rule of thirds because the main focus is not directly centered in the middle. Also, you can see the texture on the ceiling in the photo. The light reflecting on the chandelier creates shadow that is shown on the ceiling. The feeling in this photo gives a elegant and fancy feeling to it. It does because the light is forming a sparkle on the chandelier that makes it look fancier than it really is.
What photographer/artist most influenced your photos? Dan Graham was one of the many photographers that influenced my photos. What was your location and setting for your photos? The location of my photos was in the front of the school and in the courtyard. The photos were taken in the afternoon. How did you use positioning of the mirror and camera to create your compositions? I positioned the mirror in most photos on the ground so it could reflect upwards. In addition, I positioned my camera to get different angles and to get other point of views of the mirror. Were you able to create anything unexpected in your reflection? Yes because in Photo 3 the subject´s face was distorted by the cracked mirror. How does your setting contrast with the rest of your image? The setting contrasts the images having certain spots of the sky being shown on the grass by the mirror's reflection. How would you describe your photos: unexpected? evocative? confusing? playful? Funny? surreal? I would describe photos 1 and 2 as playful because of the distortion of the person who is being reflected in the mirror. What idea/concept are your reflection photos about? Were you able to blur the line between illusion and reality? The idea/concept that my photos are about are trying to show contrast between two things. I was able to blur lines between illusion and reality. For example, in photo 10 it is hard to tell which stick is the actually one and to see which ones are the reflection of the real stick.
Cyanotype
Process of Cyanotype 1. Create a negative by inverting an image and print it on transparent paper 2. Mix two solutions together in a dark room, with as little of light coming in possible 3. In a dark room, use specific cyanotype paper and put an even coat of the mixed solution 4. Let the paper dry completely in a dark spot 5. Secure the transparent paper with plexiglass and clips onto the dry cyanotype paper 6. Expose the image into direct sunlight from anywhere to 9-12 minutes 7. Remove plexiglass and transparent paper, and rinse the cyanotype paper in water 8. Rinse the paper until all of the yellow residue is gone 9. Soak the paper in hydroperoxide for a few minutes to make the blues richer 10. Let the paper dry
